The collection, compiled by steering committee member Charles Edward Moran contains clippings, correspondence, a sample speech and resolution and blank petitions of the organization formed to urge Congress to act for a stronger United Nations. The papers, 1950, of the Charlottesville and Albemarle Independent Citizens Association, as collected by secretary Moran, contain minutes, a certificate of incorporation and membership lists. All are concerned with progress and better government in Charlottesville and particularly with the election of Francis Fife to city council [ca. 50 items ms., typescript, near print].

In 1945, four individuals who had worked on the Manhattan project-John L. Balderston, Jr., Dieter M. Gruen, W.J. McLean, and David B. Wehmeyer-formed a committee and wrote a letter to 154 public figures asking for their opinions about the possibility of the creation of a world government.
